Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Coupe
For only the sixth time in history, an AMG Black Series has arrived only to go fast, very fast. The most powerful AMG V8 road car yet, the ultimate AMG GT arrives fresh from a 6:43.616 Nurburgring-Nordschleife lap record for an unmodified production car.
A race that knows no finish line.
In an old mill in 1967, two engineers with a passion for motorsports began turning Mercedes-Benz sedans into winning racecars. Today, AMG continues to create victory on the track and desire on the streets of the world. Every Mercedes-AMG vehicle is the product of craftsmen, designers, engineers and racers who live for a singular goal: Driving Performance.
Record-setting, track-proven power
While every Mercedes-AMG's soul, and much of its body, is born on the racetrack, the AMG GT Black Series is the most direct transfer yet. Its aerodynamic and technical similarity to the highly successful AMG GT3 and GT4 racers is evident in its form, and its formidable power.
Flat-plane crank: flat-out fast
With 720 hp, the handcrafted biturbo engine is the most powerful V8 AMG has ever unleashed on the street. A "flat-plane" crankshaft, 24.6 psi of max boost, and dry-sump lubrication team up to reach 60 in 3.1 seconds, 120 in under 9 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph. Rear transaxle: balance of power
Integrated within the rear-mounted transaxle for ideal weight distribution, the dual-clutch AMG SPEEDSHIFT® DCT 7-speed is adapted to the engine's high torque. Shift points and response time, Race Start revs, and cooling are further intensified for track performance.
Carbon fiber driveshaft: transfer of torque
The driveshaft that carries the engine's thrust to the rear transaxle, as well as the rigid "torque tube" that carries it, are both crafted from carbon fiber. At just 30.6 lbs, the tube shaves 40 percent off the weight of the already light aluminum component in the GT model.
Rerouted exhaust: Manifold destiny
The lightweight thin-wall stainless-steel exhaust's twin tailpipes unleash a performance symphony. The Black Series sound signature is shaped by the flat-plane crankshaft, rerouted manifolds, and computer-controlled vanes that can tune the exhaust note from a rumble to a roar.
Geometry, physics and physical fitness
The Black Series didn't set a new Nurburgring record on horsepower alone. Virtually every handling element is tuned for the track, much of it tunable for your specific track. From coil-overs to camber to carbon fiber and ceramics, it's a glossary of handling excellence.
Highly adaptive damping: coil over matter
Adjustable coil-over springs team with the 3-stage adaptive damping of AMG RIDE CONTROL for highly precise control on road or track. Two separate valves can rapidly adjust the damping for compression and rebound. Sport+ mode can automatically sense track surface quality.
Adjustable camber and sway: geometric progression
Camber at the front and rear axles is manually adjustable, so you can alter the settings for the track, at the track, and reset them for the drive home. The carbon fiber front sway bar offers 3-stage adjustment. A carbon fiber sheer panel stiffens the rear-end structure.
Ceramic composite braking: unfading glory
AMG Ceramic Composite brakes measure an enormous 15.8 and 14.2 inches front/rear, yet are 40 percent lighter than conventional discs. Distinctive black-painted calipers are a bespoke detail, while brake cooling is specially adapted for maximum benefit as well. Disclaimer[7]
AMG DYNAMIC SELECT: control of controls
Controls on the console or directly on the steering wheel let you call up the drive modes of AMG DYNAMIC SELECT. Each program cohesively fine-tunes the throttle map, shifting, damping, exhaust sound and more for everyday, sporting and track driving.
The fusion of flow and forcefulness
Every ounce of weight is carefully considered, skillfully reduced, and strategically placed to optimize dynamic balance while heightening rigidity. Airflow is harnessed to slice the wind, feed the engine, cool the running gear, and enhance roadholding and stability at speed.
Variable aero: attitude adjustment
You can adjust the front splitter to track and street positions. The rear wing's twin carbon fiber blades are also adjustable, plus an upper-blade flap can be electrically tilted by up to 20 degrees. The underbody is near-fully paneled to help draw air and heat out the back.
Strength with lightness: material fitness
Weight is reduced where it helps create the most benefit. The carbon fiber double-domed roof and rear hatch, and lightweight front and rear glass, help lower the center of gravity. A network of reinforcements and a coiled transmission mount, all carbon fiber, add rigidity.
A sense of control on every surface
High-resolution, reconfigurable digital displays and ergonomic controls anchor the stylishly functional cockpit. Bespoke materials, from the dash to the AMG Performance seats, are geared toward precise control and enduring comfort even in the most spirited driving.
Exclusively finished, intensely focused
Along with Black Exclusive Nappa leather, DINAMICA microsuede is impeccably tailored to the seats, dash, console, doors and AMG Performance steering wheel. Matte carbon fiber and gloss black accents can be contrasted with silver or bespoke orange stitching and seat stripes.
Forged wheels, molten looks
Staggered in width and diameter, the 10x19-inch front/12x20-inch rear AMG® forged 10-spoke wheels help extract braking heat. They wear a Black Series color scheme and bespoke Michelin® Pilot Sport Cup tires. Magmabeam Orange paintwork is an exclusive, dramatic option.
Immensely powerful, entirely purposeful
The enlarged grille, recessed-center roof, and massive wing confirm the direct influence of the AMG GT3 racecars on the Black Series. Fender-top vents and large side sills help manage airflow, heat and roadholding. Every visual detail is visible evidence of its performance.
